Narrative Description of Project:

 

 

The purpose of this study is to establish baseline information regarding solid and liquid wastes management in four Irrigation General Directorates (West Sharkia, New Zifta, Quena and Aswan), where the concept of Integrated Water Management District will be generalized. The study is directed towards surveying population and facilities in various population centers within the 28 irrigation districts.

The study has compiled and analyzed data regarding the solid and liquid wastes management including volume distribution, disposal methods, side effects of system pollutions, with emphasis on the watercourses. The baseline has provided necessary data to build necessary process and outcome indicators for follow up wastes control with the progress of IWMDs.

 

i) Identify Population Center by Name and Location, plotted on map.
ii) Population (male, age disaggregated; female, age disaggregated).
iii) Political organization – local council.
iv) Health facilities in center (clinic, hospital, doctors, ..), including  the diseases  the attributed to pollution (water borne, toxicity).
v) Education facilities-primary, preparatory, post-preparatory.
vi) Volume of solid waste (household, industry, agriculture; estimate volume of each type), including solid waste collection and disposal methods.
vii) Volume of liquid waste (household, industry, agriculture; estimate volume of each type), including liquid waste collection and disposal methods.
viii) Assess interest in tacking wastes problem (civil and private); their thoughts/ideas on addressing the problems.
ix) NGOs operating in center (name, contact person, interest area).

 

Description of Actual Services:

 

This project provided consulting services on four different General Directorates based on compiling data from different sources regarding solid and liquid waste management and their effect on watercourses. The study included extensive field visits and interviews with local government and civil society members.
