This
project is directed towards developing and implementing protection
measures for Dahab –Rasasa Tourism Area and Coastal Road (on
Aquaba Gulf) against flash floods hazards. The area is divided into
three sectors: Dahab Coast, Dahab Land and Dahab Coral at Aquaba
Gulf, South Sinai. The flash floods are created by rain
falling in the area full of wadis of various sizes. These floods
have the nature of torrential flows with severity depending on the
intensity of rainfall, duration of the storm as well as the
geomorphologic features of each wadi including its infiltration to
groundwater.
The
main objectives of this study are many folds, namely:

To identify and analyze the
different wadis affecting the region. |
| 2) |
To present the meteorological
study of the rainfalls affecting the flash floods in the area
for different recurrent periods (100, 50, 20, ..etc Years).. |
| 3) |
To estimate the hydrological
discharges of the wadis affecting the region, in order
evaluate the degree of hazards on the region (Vulnerability
analysis and Risk zone mapping). |
| 4) |
To examine the effect of
building of the region on the future morphological and
hydrological response of wadis, evaluating the corresponding
future risks. |
| 5) |
To suggest various protection
measures against flash floods and methods of their mitigation
within the region and their entrances, and perform their
technical and financial feasibility to reach the optimum
solutions. |

To prepare recommendations for
the Physical Planner (Architect) for the various strategies to
be followed for various areas affected by flash floods. |
| 7) |
To carry out a detailed design
of the protection measures (dams, culverts, diversion
channels) with bill of quantities and full specifications. |
| 8) |
Preparing the tendering
documents, method of evaluation and work acceptance. |
| 9) |
Supervising work execution and
carrying out protection measures delivery and testing. |
Within
this framework the full protection of the area was constructed and
delivered to the owner. The protection involved constructing 10
structures of different sizes, including channels, culverts, and
dams.

The
service provided by SDA is of consulting nature where all consulting
work of the study, design, and supervision and work acceptance for
flash flood protection measures was carried out. Space Architect
carried out the urban planning studies of the region and method of
urban development that reduces the flash flood hazards. Arab
Contracting Company made the execution of the protection work.
